Maresa Patterson, LMSW, is a New York state Licensed Social Worker. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from New York University. She also holds a Master’s degree in English Education from Brooklyn College and completed her Bachelor's degree in English at Smith College. Ms. Patterson has professional experience working with people of all ages through her work in education, the arts, housing, health care, and geriatric care.
Ms. Patterson works with older adults, adults, teens, and children. She utilizes elements of psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), and mindfulness-based modalities. She helps clients navigate a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, sexual identity development, and career transitions. Ms. Patterson works with individuals across all backgrounds and has an affinity for working with the LBGTQIA+ population and with older adults.
Ms. Patterson believes that the challenging parts of our past can be integrated into our present selves in a way that helps, rather than hinders, our ability to live a full life. By employing a range of therapy tools, she works with her clients to understand the root of challenging feelings and experiences, while helping clients work through family dynamics and questions of identity. With warmth and curiosity, she creates a welcoming space to explore one's past, creating more agency over one's present and future.
